A World of Tea Tastings
Join us for a tasting of 7-8 fine loose-leaf teas. And we’ll also partake of some sweet and savory snacks to complement them. We’ll sample rich, aromatic black teas from China, India, and Sri Lanka (Ceylon), a smooth Formosa oolong that’s called “liquid sunshine,” a green tea variety once served to Chinese emperors--and more. We’ll discuss how to brew and blend teas, and learn a bit about the history of this “elixir of the East,” which has influenced the world through trade, customs, arts and crafts (think: fine ceramics), and technology (think: clipper ships). Bring one or two of your favorite cups--and learn to enjoy the world’s most-popular beverage.
About the Instructor:
Paul Angiolillo has been giving tea-tastings, as well as talks about the history, culture, and politics of tea, for over a decade, in adult-ed and other educational programs, at private residences, and in a variety of other institutions, including the Peabody-Essex Museum (Salem), Golden Ball Tavern Museum (Weston), and Mariposa Museum (Peterborough NH). A writer and an editor, Paul also worked for a year at Upton Tea Imports in Holliston MA.
