Watercolor 1: Intro to Watercolor
Discover the beauty, spontaneity, and expressive possibilities of watercolor painting in this welcoming multi-week course designed for beginners and those with limited experience.
This class provides a solid foundation in watercolor techniques while encouraging personal creativity and artistic confidence. Students will learn essential watercolor skills including brush handling, color mixing, washes, layering, value studies, composition, and an introduction to color theory. Through demonstrations, guided exercises, and individual instruction, participants will explore both traditional watercolor methods and more expressive contemporary approaches.
The relaxed, supportive atmosphere encourages experimentation and creative growth while helping students develop their own artistic voice. Throughout the course, students will complete several finished paintings and gain the skills needed to continue painting independently.

- Watercolor paint set (student grade or professional)
- Watercolor brushes (round sizes #6 and #10 recommended)
- Watercolor paper pad (140 lb. cold press)
- Pencil and eraser
- Water container
- Paper towels

About the Instructor:
Brian Antifonario is a lifelong artist, muralist, illustrator, and instructor working in watercolor, acrylic, oil, and drawing. A Summa Cum Laude Salem State University graduate, he has studied art and culture in England and France, illustrated a children’s book, and completed numerous murals. Brian enjoys helping students of all levels develop skills, confidence, and creativity in a relaxed, supportive atmosphere.
