Knitting - For Beginners

The fiber arts are always better with good company!

This six week course will focus on beginners to knitting with lessons on the basic stitches and pattern reading. By the end of this course, students will be able to read and work from beginner level knitting and patterns, and will be able to make at least one dishcloth in the medium of their choice (quick learners or experienced knitters may move on to more complex patterns, or bring their own work in progress). Students will be asked to provide their own needles/hooks and yarn, but a preliminary lesson on how to choose a hook/needle and the yarn weight that best correlates to those needles can be made available to students.

By the last third of the course, work will become a lot more independent, people may be working on different projects of varying intensities, with instructor support.

Materials:
One set of knitting needles
At least one skein of yarn (appropriate for the pair of needles). Students who are completely new to knitting and will be making the “dishcloth” project in class may want to purchase cotton yarn.
