Quilted Tree Skirt
Add a special touch to your holiday tree by making your very own tree skirt.  All levels of ability from beginner to more advanced will learn to cut and construct their tree skirt in this 3 week class.  The first class will take place at a fabric store where the instructor will help you select all the materials needed to make your tree skirt.


Instructor:  Melissa J. Dawson

Since making her first quilt in 1995 Melissa has tried various techniques and styles, but regardless of technique, design or materials they all rely on understanding the basics of measuring, color and construction. This beginning class will introduce these basics and encourage students to expand them into their own unique sense of color and design.

Supply List
Christmas Tree Skirt Workshop – Melissa J. Dawson

All supplies are available at most craft/fabric stores.

Supplies Needed
- Machine in good working order
- ¼” seam foot or width magnet
- Power strip(s) or extension cord
- Fabric scissors and/or Rotary Cutter
- Cutting Mat
- Clear plastic ruler –6” x 24”
- ¼” seam guide (can use a clear ruler)
- Long Straight pins
- Thread – 100% cotton or cotton covered poly (neutral colors such as medium gray or beige work best), including a couple of pre-wound bobbins for your machine
- Binding strips – can purchase premade or make from fabric left overs in class
- Two pieces of batting – 25” x 60” each ($8 if student wants me to provide)
- Specialty Triangle Template - $12 per student – teacher will provide


- Coordinating Fabrics: Approximate 3-4 yards of assorted / coordinating fabrics for the top. The more variety the better - 100% cotton preferred. The backing will need 2 ½ yards backing fabric.

- The first class will be at either Bits ‘n Pieces Quilt Shop in Pelham, NH or Joann in Nashua, NH – I will inform the class beforehand when I have a site confirmed. We will be discussing fabric quantities and preparation, along with principles of design, scale, and color at the first class. If you have a small selection of Holiday fabrics you want to incorporate you can bring them to select complementary fabrics.
