Tshirt Quilt
Create a memorable quality keepsake quilt using your own t-shirts.  Learn how to prepare your shirts, then cut and piece them together with sashing and cornerstones.  Quilt design and setting ideas will be discussed.  The first class will take place at a fabric store where the instructor will help you select all the materials needed to make your quilt.  This class is for all levels.

Instructor:  Melissa J. Dawson

Since making her first quilt in 1995 Melissa has tried various techniques and styles, but regardless of technique, design or materials they all rely on understanding the basics of measuring, color and construction. This beginning class will introduce these basics and encourage students to expand them into their own unique sense of color and design.

Supply List
T-Shirt Quilt Class – Melissa J. Dawson

All supplies are available at most craft/fabric stores.

Supplies Needed
- Machine in good working order
- ¼” seam foot or width magnet
- Power strip(s) or extension cord
- Scissors to cut paper and plastic
- Fabric scissors and/or Rotary Cutter
- Cutting Mat
- This project can be done with scissors only, however the ruler will be key in ensuring the pieces fit well together. However, the cutter and mat will speed up the process with increased accuracy.
- Clear plastic ruler – I recommend 12 ½” square and/or 6” x 24”
- ¼” seam guide (can use a clear ruler)
- Long Straight pins
- Pencil and paper if taking notes
- Thread – 100% cotton or cotton covered poly (neutral colors such as medium gray or beige work best), including a couple of pre-wound bobbins for your machine
- Post It Notes or other small pieces of paper for labeling
- Light weight fusible interfacing – estimate 1 yard for every 5 T-Shirts

- Coordinating Fabrics: 100% cotton preferred. The first class will be at either Bits ‘n Pieces Quilt Shop in Pelham, NH or Joann in Nashua, NH – I will inform the class beforehand when I have a site confirmed. We will be discussing fabric quantities and preparation, along with principles of design, scale, and color at the first class. If you have a small selection of T-shirts you want to bring it may be helpful for you when selecting material.

- A Twin-Size quilt should use 3-4 yards of coordinating material. Not including material for the back. Larger, or smaller, project amounts will vary.
