Cake Decorating 101

This course teaches the basics of how to successfully prepare your cake to decorate it.  Learn different consistencies of frosting, how to color frosting, set up and fill your decorating bags.  Get tips & tricks you won't find on YouTube!  Techniques taught include borders, line work, dimensional piping flowers (rose and drop).  This hands-on course will make you ready to prepare your own cake for a special occasion by week 2!

Students will be required to bring 3 cakes throughout the session, frosted and ready for decorating (more information in class 1).  

This is a basic decorating class in which you will build on lessons taught the previous week culminating in a lovely rose basket cake on week 5.

Some supplies will be available each week but purchasing your own supplies is highly recommended.  You will be given a written sheet of each class needs on the week before, so that you can be ready for your next class.

About our Instructor:
Christina took her first cake decorating class at Chelmsford High School when she was in 12th grade. After taking all 4 of the Wilton Cake Decorating classes (buttercream, royal icing, fondant, and Gumpaste), Christina showed a real ability and was asked by her instructor to become a certified instructor.  Christina got her certification as a Wilton Cake Instructor and has been teaching for over 20 years! What she enjoys most about teaching is the reaction her students have when they decorate their first cake.   Christina says, “I can’t believe I made this” is heard often after their first decorating experience in her classes.

Class Outline
Class 1: Learning how to ready your cake for decorating, explanation of tools, times, frosting, etc.

Class 2: You bake a cake, bring it in frosted and smoothed and then decorate with many different tip sizes and shapes. This class teaches you the basics of coloring, filling your bags, choosing a tip for which technique needed and you go home with a beautifully decorating cake (cake needed)

Class 3: You bake a cake, bring it in frosted and smoothed. This is a 3-dimensional and transfer class. Learn two different borders as well. (no cake needed)

Class 4: This is a technique only class. No cake required. Learn how to make roses! This is a very necessary class in order to decorate your final cake with roses.

Class 5: You bake a cake, bring it in frosted and smoothed. In this class you will create more roses, learn the basket weave technique, more borders and fill flowers. (cake needed)

Tips needed for class are listed below. Your instructor will give more details for the best ways to purchase these materials individually or as a kit. If some items are difficult to find, instructor will have a small supply to use during class.
